Happy choir members off stage

So just who are
The Ska Choir?

Dust off your dancing shoes and warm up those vocal chords - the Southern Ska Collective are in town.

This loveable bunch of raggamuffins are behind The Ska Choir.

Led by our fabulous facilitators James and Emiliyah, we’re a not for profit community interest company, run and managed entirely by volunteers (who also happen to be members of the choir).

If you think you’ve seen or heard of us before, you probably have. That’s because we started life back in 2019, thanks to the wonderful Portsmouth-based charity Tonic Music for Mental Health, who continue to support music professionals around the UK.

We quickly gained a growing army of followers, with our infectious blend of ska and reggae covers proving an instant hit with audiences large and small - from private parties to major festivals.

Sadly, in 2022, the ravages of the Covid pandemic combined with the worsening economic climate meant that Tonic were no longer able to fund us.

But we don’t give up that easily!!

Keep calm and sing ska

With Tonic’s blessing, we reinvented ourselves and now we’re not only back - we’re bigger and better than ever before!

The Southern Ska Collective is all about making music, having fun, supporting each other and bringing pleasure and enjoyment to all wherever we go.

We provide a safe and supportive environment for people 18 and over, from all backgrounds, to get together to sing ska and reggae classics at the top of their voices.

There are no auditions and everyone is welcome to join in, whatever your ability, for just a small monthly subscription.

We rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7.30-9pm at Eastney Community Centre, Bransbury Park, Southsea and spread the joy by performing around Hampshire and beyond.

As well as entertaining the crowds, we’re also great at raising money for charities through collections and events.

And, as a hub for lovers of all things ska and reggae, we even promote and produce our own events.

To find out more, join the choir, or book us for your event, please get in touch - we’ll be delighted to hear from you!
